Study Guide for Test #1
Zettl Chapters 1 through 7 & notes

The test is mostly objective and some short answer and exercise material. Expect to fill in the blank on diagrams from the chapters. Be prepared to discuss problems with camera shots. Here are some specific areas to help focus your study:

1.  Study all "Main Points" at end of each chapter section.

2.  Study all terms from beginning of each chapter.

3.  Study both sections of each chapter.

4.  Know the Effect-to-Cause Model from your notes - there is an example of this in chapter 2 of the text.

5.  Be familiar with the three DTV standards which have emerged as most practical mentioned in chapter 2.2.

6.  Know the difference between sampling and quantizing in chapter 2.

7.  Know the three basic elements of the video camera.

8.  Review f-stop settings and procedures in chapter 6. Also, what does it mean to calibrate the lens/focus?

9.  What are the advantages/disadvantages of analog vs. digital video? (chap. 4)

10.  Know the four parts of the standard camera chain - chapter 5.

11.  Have a good understanding of depth of field and what factors influence it (chapter 6).

12. What are the different types of script formats - why is one used over the other? (chap. 3)

13. Explain the difference between interlaced scanning and progressive scanning. (chap 4)

14.  Make sure to go over any notes from class or lab that are related to these chapters.

15. Review any notes or concepts that appeared in class video presentations.

16. Review two methods of pedestal steering - chap. 7.
